The Health Secretary Matt Hancock accused of an affair with Gina Coladangelo. Ms Coladangelo is an adviser to his department. Before becoming an adviser, they met at university and hired her as an unpaid adviser on a six-month contract in March last year. After that, Ms Coladangerlo appointed as a non-executive director at the department.
Ms Coladangelo is the marketing and communications director at Oliver Bonas, while Matt Hancock is married to Martha for 15 years. Mr Hancock has three children together with Martha.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps would not talk on the “entirely personal” matter following the releases about his Cabinet partner.
When questioned if the Health Secretary had been neglecting social distancing commands when the images were taken, Mr Shapps mentioned that he is quite certain that whatever the rules were at the time were followed.
Labour said that the Government needs to respond whether the Health Secretary had cut rules or there was something else in the appointment of his closest adviser.
An Opposition party spokesman said that ministers allowed private life, but if taxpayers’ money is involved or jobs are being given to close friends a personal connection with a minister, then that requires to be seen.
“The Government needs to be open and transparent about whether there are any conflicts of interests or rules that have been broken,” added spokesman.
Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey tweeted, “The reason Matt Hancock should quit is that he is a lousy Health Secretary, not because of his private life.”
