Mariah Carey, a pop music icon, has confirmed the unfortunate demise of her mother and sister, Patricia and Alison. They passed away on the same day, with the circumstances around their deaths remaining uncertain. Carey expressed her heartbreak, stating that both her mother and her sister tragically died over the previous weekend. She also conveyed her gratefulness for having had the opportunity to spend the week preceding her mother’s death with her, and requested privacy, love, and support during this challenging period.
Carey’s parents, Patricia and Alfred, had separated when she was only three years old. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, she reflected on her multifaceted relationship with her mother. Despite having a complex bond, they maintained a relationship, as evidenced by a festive duet they recorded in 2010 – O Come All Ye Faithful and Hallelujah Chorus. In her memoir, Carey paid tribute to her mother, expressing her belief that Patricia did her best and promising to reciprocate with her best love in return.
The pop singer’s relationship with her sister, Alison, was reportedly complicated as well. Carey admitted in her memoir that it was both psychologically and physically better for her to sever ties with Alison and her brother, Morgan.
