Marco Melandri wins race 1 at Aragon, Checa crashes

Marco Melandri used the same technique to win todays’ race 1 at Aragon that let him grab yesterday’s Superpole by tailing and pressuring Max Biaggi for almost the entire race.
Melandri’s tatics proved correct because the Roman Emperor outbraked himself with four laps to go, letting his surprised countryman through and from there Melandri put in a 1.

2s gap to take a comfortable victory.
Max Biaggi took the holeshot with Melandri in his shadow; the two riders made the big difference in the first two laps, however they stressed out their tires on the abrasive Spanish track, but it was enough to put a big space between the rest of the field, who could only try to play catch-up and falling short.
Biaggi took the second spot with team mate Leon Camier coming in third.
While Melandri and Biaggi visibly slowed down over the the length of the race due to worn out tires, Camier visibily upped his pace during the latter half of the race and finished just 9 tenths from Biaggi.
Points leader Carlos Checa made his first big mistake of the season, crashing out on lap 8 after posting the fastest lap of the race trying to catch the two fleeing Italians, after loosing precious time battling with Camier.

Fourth went to Eugene Laverty who got the better over Tom Sykes at the finish line by less than a tenth of second.
Noriyuki Haga who diced it out for four riders over the race and ended up in sixth with Joan Lascorz in seventh.
Ayrton Badovini took eighth, more than 7 seconds ahead of the BMW factory riders Leon Haslam and Troy Corser, who were 9th and 10th respectively.
