Marco Melandri on top on final day of testing at Jerez

On the second and final day of World Superbike testing at Jerez de La Frontera, the rain that had hampered testing from last Saturday to Monday as expected finally left the Andalucian track and the teams were finally able to get in a decent day of work, before heading to Phillip Island next month for another two test sessions (February 14-15 and February 20-21) ahead of the first round of the 2013 season scheduled for February 24th.

Marco Melandri with his 63 laps rose to the top of the timesheets and stopped the clock in 1’40″758, a little more than a tenth of a second of second faster (0.
103s) than Davide Giuliano on his second day with the Aprilia RSV4 – who was fastest yesterday in the wet – and the two Italians were the only riders to lap under the 1.
41 barrier.
Aprilia factory rider Eugene Laverty was third fatest even though he suffered a harmless crash as did his new team mate Sylvain Guintoli who concluded the test in 6th behind Suzuki’s Leon Camier and Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea (yesterday Pata Honda had electronic issues).

BMW Italia’s new rider Chaz Davies was 7th and almost a second off pace from Melandri, while further down on the charts were Leon Haslam (+1.
653) and Jules Cluzel (1.
877) and debuting Ivan Clementi who more than 4 seconds off pace with his satellite BMW.
Just like yesterday, Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes and Loris Baz didn’t use transponders, but apparently Sykes was lapping in the low 1.
