Marc Marquez takes new victory in red flagged and last lap thriller at Misano

Today’s Moto2 race at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was red flagged during the third lap while Andrea Iannone was leading after passing Marc Marquez at the Curvone and Gino Rea’s Federal Oil Suter-Honda engine decided to blow at turn 16, and drip oil forcing the race to be halted while the marshals had to clean the track surface.

The race was shortened to fourteen laps (can’t invade MotoGPs schedule) with the same positions during the fourth lap becoming the new starting grid with Iannone in pole position followed by Marquez, Pol Espargaro, Takaaki Nakagami, Scott Redding, Esteve Rabat, Thomas Luthi, Julian Simon, Mika Kallio and Dominque Aegerter.
In the re-start Iannone got the hole-shot followed by Marquez, an aggressive Rabat, Espargarò, Luthi, Kallio, Redding, Aegerter, Simon and Zarco and for the first seven laps had the Italian who was debuting a one off livery for the race to promote a movie began his charge to escape from the rest of the field, while Marquez had a big moment and lost two positions to Rabat and Pol Espargarò as the Speed Master rider posted the fastest lap of the race.

Espargarò regained the second spot, while Marquez was on a mission as he took third from Rabat and the both Spaniards began chasing down Iannone, as Xavier Simeon, Yuki Takahashi and Simone Corsi all crashed out.
After the first seven laps Iannone began to fade visibily with tire problems that let Espargaro and Marquez catch him on the 9th lap and just one lap later both Spaniards passed the Italian, who began to fade even further, but far enough ahead from the rest of the field to take the third spot on the podium.
The fight for the victory went down on the final lap between the title rival, when Marquez attacked Espargaro at the Quercia, the Pons rider responded immediately, but Marquez came off better at the Tramonto, and Espargaro tried again but Marquez at the Carro forced him slightly wide to cross the finish line ahead of his rival, and take his seventh victory of the season, his third consecutive, and increment his points advantage to a massive +53 points over title rival Espargaro.
Mika Kallio finished fourth ahead of Tito Rabat, Dominique Aegerter and Scott Redding, Bradley Smith, Thomas Luthi and Johann Zarco who closed out the top ten.
