Marc Marquez beats Andrea Iannone in last lap duel at Assen

Today’s Moto2 race at< Assen may become the turning point of the championship as Marc Marquez took the victory after beating Andrea Iannone in a last lap thriller, while his closest rival Pol Espargaro suffered the biggest heartbreak, crashing out on the second lap while he was leading and if that wasn’t enough to give Marquez a now comfortable lead in the standings Thomas Luthi also crashed out after being hit by Ratthapark Wilairot on the first lap.

Dominique Aegerter got the holeshot surprising everyone with Espargarò, Iannone, Bradley Smith trailing, at the final chicane Espargaro took the lead with a precision pass but on the second lap going hot into to the“Ruskenheok, the Spaniard crashed out destroying his Kalex who flipped from the gravel trap to the runoff and into the gravel trap again.
With a desparate Espargaro kneeling on the runoff, the race continued with Andrea Iannone taking the lead followed by and aggressive Redding, Aegerter, Marquez who were all over each other, with Simone Corsi joining the group as his rear fairing flew away.

Iannone began breaking away and in just two laps gained a one second advantage with Redding and Marquez battling it out.
Marquez managed to shake off Redding during the tenth lap and started chasing after Iannone who is 1.
7 seconds ahead only having to fight off Tito Rabat who in the meantime passed the British rider.
Shaking off Rabat Marquez finally began his chase and and lap after lap closed in on the Italian and with just four laps to go was right on Iannone’s tail and the battle began.
Marquez passed Iannone at the Ruskenhoek, but he immediately returned the favour and the 19th lap saw more of the same and in the last lap Marquez got the better drive into turn 1, the Italian responded, but he could do nothing against the faster Spaniard who flew under the chequered flag to take the victory Scott Redding took 3rd, and his second straight podium finish in a sprint over the finish line against Rabat,an impressive Alex de Angelis who switched to an FTR chassis weekend and Tech 3’s Bradley Smith.
After leading the race for a few corners Aegerter finished in 7th well ahead of Johann Zarco, Toni Elias and Mika Kallio who closed out the top ten.
