Manchester United’s ambition to sign Rúben Amorim as their new head coach is being hampered by discussions with Sporting concerning his 30-day notice period. Sporting have been notified by United of their desire to meet Amorim’s €10 million buy-out clause, with the hope of having him ready for this Sunday’s match against Chelsea, although this might not be feasible unless an agreement is reached.
Amid the next month, United have six matches lined up, with a Premier League match against Everton on December 1st. The executives at United are positive that the Football Manager, aged 39, will be employed well in advance of this date.
Following Sporting’s victory over Nacional in the Portuguese Cup on Tuesday, Amorim expressed his uncertainty about his future at the club. “Whether it was my final match is unknown. This decision has not been taken yet… I will speak out when I make this decision,” he responded.
When the possibility of appearing at Old Trafford for Sunday’s match against Chelsea was presented, Amorim at first stated, “I will be present.” Further probed if that was a given, he responded with, “I’m not certain.”
Following the 3-1 victory against Nacional at the Taca da Liga, it was broadly anticipated that this would be Amorim’s final in command. After joining the club in March 2020, Amorim has secured two Portuguese championships and two League Cups with Sporting.
Recent speculations suggest that Amorim, 39, could be the heir to Pep Guardiola, owing to his association with the future director of football at Manchester City, Hugo Viana. These rumours, on the other hand, have been brushed off as mere conjecture by the Premier League champions.
This Friday evening, Sporting faces off against Estrela Amadora in a home league match.
