Man Faces Murder Trial for Naas Death

A male individual has been committed to appear before the Central Criminal Court for a trial alleging he is guilty of a murder in Naas, Co Kildare, taking place earlier this year. The accused, Ryan Kearney (38), residing at Loughnamona Drive, Leixlip, Co Kildare, is charged with the alleged murder of Jeffrey Jackson (50) which happened at The Lamps, School Street, on February 8th.

Detective Sergeant Gerard Moore informed Naas District Court that he had presented a book of evidence to the accused on Wednesday morning. At the scene of the alleged murder, a flat on School Street, Naas, where the gardaí found Mr Jackson dead with presumed stabbing injuries, Mr Kearney was taken into custody, according to the detective.

Following the incident, Mr Kearney has been kept in detention since he was levied with Mr Jackson’s murder charges on February 10th; the court was informed that he has made no plea for release on bail.

With the official endorsement of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Judge Desmond Zaidan allowed for Mr Kearney’s case to progress to the current hearings of the Central Criminal Court to be trialed by a judge and jury. Mr Kearney’s suitability to be put on trial was reportedly not a concern. The defendant, dressed in grey tracksuit, confirmed he comprehended the situation upon inquiry by the judge.
