“Man Extradited to Republic for Charges”

A male individual, aged 30, has been transferred from Northern Ireland to the Republic for pending criminal charges, following his arrest in eastern Belfast the previous week under an extradition warrant. His charges spanning multiple offences, including theft, ownership of stolen goods, and handling a regulated substance with an intent for distribution, are said to have been carried out in the Republic’s capital, Dublin, during 2021 and 2022. Despite these charges, his whereabouts were unknown until the recent arrest conducted by Northern Ireland’s Police Service.

On Monday, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed in a press release that they had successfully completed the extradition proceedings, sending the accused individual back to the Republic for trial. In a collaborative effort with An Garda Síochána, PSNI’s international policing unit continues their efforts to locate and apprehend individuals sought for extradition, as stated by Sgt Davey.

Reaffirming their dedication to ensuring justice, PSNI stressed that Northern Ireland is not a safe refuge for those evading arrest or the ramifications of their actions. They pledged to tirelessly chase those seeking to obstruct or deny justice owed to victims of crime. The defendant was extradited following his court appearance at Laganside Extradition Court the previous Friday.
