A fatal motor accident occurred in Ballynamona, Kinsale, Co Cork, early Saturday morning after 1.30am, involving a solo vehicle which claimed the life of a man in his 40s. The deceased, a passenger in the vehicle, was declared dead at the location of the incident. His body was then transported to the morgue at Cork University Hospital for an autopsy.
A man in his 30s, the driver, was taken into police custody at the scene under suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act. Currently, he is being held at a Cork Garda station in accordance with Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
A closure has been implemented on the road at Ballynamona. Local detours are now in operation while a detailed analysis by crash scene investigators is set to take place later in the day.
Witnesses to the accident are urged by the Gardaí to come forward, along with any motorists in the Ballynamona locale between 1.15am and 1.45am on Saturday morning who may possess relevant camera footage, including dashboard camera recordings.
