“Man Charged with Kerry Manslaughter”

During a special session of the Listowel District Court, a man aged 35 has been indicted in the fatal incident involving 44-year-old Gerard Kennelly from Knockanure, which purportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday morning. The defendant, Kieran Brady from Co Limerick’s Athea, was detained at the start of the week and was subsequently charged with Mr Kennelly’s manslaughter on Tuesday evening.

Brady’s alleged crime occurred specifically at around 12.15am on Monday, May 27th, in the locality of Knockanure. Judge Alan Mitchell presided over the special court session of Listowel District Court, where Detective Garda Tim Walsh reported to have formally arrested Brady and pressed charges around 5.17pm at the Listowel Garda station.

Upon being charged, Brady offered no defense whatsoever. Pat Mann, acting as Brady’s legal counsel, requested bail for his client, a motion which the state vehemently opposed on several grounds such as the severity of Brady’s charges, the high probability of Brady receiving a prison term should he be found guilty, and the possibility of him escaping.

The bail application was dismissed by Judge Alan Mitchell, who subsequently ordered Brady’s detention until his court appointment at Killarney District Court the following Tuesday, June 4th. Legal assistance was granted for the defendant. Mann has made it clear that he would appeal the court’s decision to deny bail at the High Court on his client’s behalf.
