Man charged with illegal gun

Willie Woodland, a 31-year-old man from Ballynanty, Limerick, has faced Limerick District Court following charges of unlawful possession of a submachine-gun and its ammunition. This incident occurred earlier this week, with the mentioned weapon being found at his residential address on 3rd September.

Woodland is held, culpable for illegally possessing a submachine gun, precisely a 9x18mm Makarov calibre Rak make model PM63, in addition to a considerable amount of 9x18mm Makrov calibre ammunition. Both the gun and ammunition were allegedly intended for unlawful operations.

During the court hearing, the Garda Laura Lyons, based in Limerick’s Henry Street station, testified that Woodland was arrested and charged under the supervision of Detective Garda Sean O’Hagan, and that he remained silent in response.

Throughout the short court hearing, Woodland refrained from speaking and no evidence was presented. Garda Sergeant Sean Murray, located at the Roxboro Road station, submitted an application requesting Woodland’s custody be continued into the next week, while awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Sarah Ryan, an assigned solicitor for the defendant, was granted free legal aid. She stated not applying for bail. The presiding Judge, Carol Anne Coolican, acceded to Sergeant Murray’s request and decreed that Woodland would stay in custody, forthcoming his future court appearance via video link on 10th September.
