On Sunday afternoon, James McDonagh, a 37-year-old man hailing from Dominic Street, Newry, Co Down, was brought to court for allegedly falsely imprisoning a woman in north Co Louth, at Gyles Quay. Charged with this offence, he was also accused of illegal use of a large silver knife during an aggravated burglary at the same location, Gyles Quay.
McDonagh is also reported to have used a car without the permission of the owner and driven dangerously at Gyles Quay on the same day. His arrest and charges were all met with silence, making no response whatsoever.
During the hearing, Paula Butterly BL, McDonagh’s defence counsel, informed Judge Eirinn McKiernan that her client wouldn’t be seeking bail. Awaiting the Director of Public Prosecution’s instructions, Judge McKiernan adjourned the case, maintaining McDonagh in custody until he’s required to face the Dundalk District Court, scheduled Wednesday, June 26th.
