“Man Charged for Critical Donegal Crash”

Kevin Grant found himself in a Donegal court following a severe hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian in critical condition. On a Monday evening, 36-year-old Grant appeared at a special hearing in Letterkenny District Court, facing eight charges concerning the incident. These encompassed endangerment, twice committing dangerous driving, refusal to provide necessary information and a sample, as well as three additional violations under the Road Traffic Act linked with the alleged hit-and-run occurrence.

The aftermath of an episode in Clonmany’s central street unfolded, which happened on the previous Sunday just past midnight, leading to a pedestrian, estimated to be in his sixties, sustaining serious injuries from being hit by a vehicle. Video surveillance footage from the surrounding area had been secured, providing a detailed account of the alleged incident.

The injured gentleman was transported to Letterkenny University Hospital before being quickly moved to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where, according to a Garda representative, he remains in a dire state. Meanwhile, Grant from Páirc Mór, Buncrana, was captured in Buncrana and detained at a Donegal Division Garda station under the 1984 Criminal Justice Act’s Section 4.

During the special hearing, Det Gda Sergeant Killian Callaghan voiced the guard’s opposition to granting bail based on multiple factors. He offered details of Grant’s arrest, charges, and caution. Mr. Dorrian, the accused’s lawyer, counter-argued against the denial of bail.

Taking both arguments into account, Judge Ciaran Liddy granted bail subject to several conditions to the accused, who is presently employed by a construction company in Dublin. The stipulations required he report at Buncrana Garda Station on weekends, offer a cash lodgement of €750, supply a contact number, and maintain sobriety. Judge Liddy ordered the accused to be on bail until the next court date at Letterkenny District Court on the forthcoming Thursday, 16th May.
