Man Charged for Assaulting Canadian Tourist

A male individual, approximately aged in his twenties, is due to make a court appearance at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning. This is in relation to a recent occurrence on O’Connell Street that resulted in a Canadian traveller sustaining severe injuries.

At the early morning hour of 1am on Sunday, 23rd June, the local police force was alerted about two separate incidences involving multiple individuals on Cathal Brugha Street as well as the upper part of O’Connell Street. Law enforcement managed to arrest two individuals close to where the incidences were reported.

The Canadian traveller, a male aged in his forties, was immediately transported to the Mater hospital, where he received treatment for his considerable injuries. Since the incident, there have been a total of four arrests made.

A male, around his thirties, was let go without facing any charges this past Monday. There will be a case prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

During the recent Biden-Trump debate, Biden’s performance faltered, leading to growing demands for him to step down as the Democratic crisis looms.

On Thursday evening, this previous week, another male, again in his twenties, was detained by the police for assessment. This individual, expected to be in court on Friday morning, has been charged in light with the incident.

The local authorities are eager to get in touch with any witnesses who were near the Living Room Bar in the Cathal Brugha Street region between 12.40am and 1am. The police also seek individuals who might have been around the upper area of O’Connell Street, near the Spar Shop, Funland, Tourism Office, and directly opposite the Spire during the same timeframe.

Witnesses with video footage, inclusive of dash cam video, are strongly encouraged to provide this to the police for evidence. Anyone with data pertaining to the incident is urged to come forward and get in touch with the Store Street police station, on 01 666 8000. Witnesses could also call the police confidential hotline on 1800 666 111, or contact any local police station.
