Man Charged for Alleged Politician Stalking

A male individual in his twenties has been accused in relation to reported stalking incidents involving a female public representative in Ireland’s western region. The arrest was made by Gardaí on a Thursday, as they were probing a public complaint.

He is now being held at a garda unit and is scheduled to be presented to Galway District Court on Friday morning. The accusation and subsequent arrest are part of a judiciary inquiry into claimed unlawful acts done under the new legislation, which introduced stalking as a distinct criminal act under Irish law.

The spokesperson for Garda stated the detainment was linked to an alleged violation of Section 10(1) of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997, modified by Section 23 of the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2023, specifically pertaining to stalking.
