A man of 24 years old has been retained in confinement following charges related to a weapon-based attack on another man outside a coffee shop in the core of Cork city on Friday. Aaron Bohane, originally from Ballincollig but currently without a permanent address, faced two allegations placed against him linked to the aggression towards Gavin Sheehan (age 38) which occurred on Friday around 5pm.
The charges including causing harm to Mr Sheehan during an assault on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork on September 6th that breaches Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997. Also, Mr Bohane was accused of utilising a bladed weapon during the commission of an offence.
Det Garda Joe Crowley, from Anglesea Street Garda station, presented evidence of the arrest, charges and caution, indicating that Mr Bohane offered no response to either charge following the caution. Inspector Clodagh O’Sullivan stated that they were requesting Mr Bohane to be retained in custody. In contrast, defence barrister Elaine Audley mentioned that her client wasn’t applying for bail at this time but wouldn’t rule out the prospect in the future.
Inspector O’Sullivan requested that Mr Bohane be kept in custody until Wednesday, and Judge Philip O’Leary complied, saying Mr Bohane would be held till September 11th and appear via a video link. Ms Audley successfully applied for free legal aid for her client since he was jobless and receiving social welfare.
