Man Arrested for Harassing Taoiseach

In relation to a protest held outside the family home of Taoiseach Simon Harris, an individual has been apprehended. The protest, centred on anti-immigration sentiments, was conducted in Greystones, Co Wicklow, outside Mr Harris’ home on 2nd May, with protesters rallying around a banner reading ‘South Dublin says no, close the border’.

The arrested man was held in custody under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984 on a Tuesday, but was subsequently released without charge. A casefile is being compiled for the Director of Public Prosecutions’ consideration.

A woman was also previously taken into custody in regards to the same event in the previous month, and a file is being generated for the DPP relating to this incident as well.

In a recent conversation on the Ryan Tubridy’s Bookshelf podcast, Mr Harris expressed his discomfort with labelling the event as a ‘protest’, viewing it instead as an act of intimidation, harassment, and thuggery, intentionally designed to cause unease and discomfort by reminding him that they know where he resides.

Mr Harris has dismissed suggestions of moving to State-owned premises like Farmleigh House located in Phoenix Park, citing that it would cause too much disruption to his children’s daily routines.
