Man Arrested for Cork Stabbing

In an incident in the heart of Cork city, a man was brutally attacked while enjoying a coffee outdoors by two individuals. Authorities have since detained a 23-year-old related to the incident, believed to originate from Ballincollig. The ambush occurred on Friday evening at the junction of Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street, landing the victim in hospital with severe injuries.

The young man taken into custody was apprehended on a Saturday morning in the city of Cork, now held at the Bridewell Garda station under the fourth section of the Criminal Justice Act. This permits the GardaĆ­ to keep suspects for interrogation for a duration of up to 24 hours.

Efforts are being made to identify a second contributor to the stabbing, with the authorities currently investigating CCTV footage from the Grand Parade and Oliver Plunkett Street areas. Despite this, the second attacker remains unidentified as they were not wearing a disguise at the time of the attack.

The 37-year-old victim who resides in the area of Shanakiel in Cork city is currently in the Cork University Hospital in stable condition after undergoing surgery. The man has suffered from a gash to his back and facial injuries. He has a background of over 70 criminal convictions and was recently set free from prison after serving an 11-year sentence due to a shooting event.
