A man, aged 31, has been sent back for trial at the Central Criminal Court due to his alleged involvement in the murder of a quadruplet father, who was discovered with substantial injuries to his head among other injuries in a secure housing facility in the western part of Cork.
Daniel Hourigan had received charges at the beginning of this year for allegedly killing Michael Foley, who was 61 years old, at the Annville Sheltered Housing Complex located in Macroom. The exact date of this alleged crime is uncertain, but it was thought to be sometime between 31st January and 1st February.
In a recent session of Clonakilty District Court that took place during the holidays, Det Garda Denis Curtin, stationed at the Macroom Garda, delivered a book of evidence to Mr. Hourigan. His address had been previously cited as the Cork Simon Community.
Sgt Tom Mulcahy announced that the Director of Public Prosecutions had instructed the indictment for Mr. Hourigan’s trial. Mulcahy also requested that the case be heard by a judge and a jury at the forthcoming Central Criminal Court session.
Judge Brendan O’Reilly approved of the application as well as a request from Eddie Burke, Mr. Hourigan’s solicitor, for legal aid for both the senior and junior counsels in the case. Judge O’Reilly ordered Hourigan to remain under custody until his appearance at the next Central Criminal Court session.
Another accused individual, Linda O’Flynn, 31 years old, from Leeside Apartments in Cork, will appear before the Clonakilty District Court in the coming week. She faces the same allegations of murdering Foley at Annville Sheltered Housing Complex in Macroom between January 31st and February 1st.
Michael Foley, an original resident of Clonakilty, who lived by himself, was found on his chalet’s kitchen floor at around 1pm on February 6th. A care worker who had come to check up on him made the gruesome discovery.
