On Saturday, a wave of missiles and drones were discharged by Russia, wreaking havoc on the energy infrastructures in five distinct regions across Ukraine, as conveyed by authorities. The national power operator of Ukraine, Ukrenergo, indicated that establishments in central Kyrovohrad, the western Ivano-Frankivsk, the southeast region of Zaporizhzhia, eastern Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk were imperilled by this vicious attack.
Ukrenergo shockingly recounted that this is the sixth assault on Ukraine’s civil energy structure since March. The aggressive advancements by Russia incorporated a blend of missile strikes and drone attacks which have been progressively intensifying.
A statement by the air force commander of Ukraine revealed that they effectively intercepted 35 out of 53 Russian missiles and thwarted 46 of the 47 dispatched drones. However, these continued attacks from Russia on Ukraine’s energy sector since March had resulted in numerous power outages, with a critical effect on the country’s utility generators and provoking a significant spike in power imports.
Ukraine’s foremost private energy provider, DTEK, reported significant damage to its two thermal power plants due to the attack while several blazes triggered by the missile and drone strikes are being battled by firefighters across different sites.
