Despite being just three matches into the new EY Hockey League season, Loreto are exhibiting flawless performance as the only team to have won all their games. They won 3-0 against UCC on Saturday, marking their third straight victory, without having conceded a single goal.
Emily Kealy initiated their victory, scoring a goal in the first quarter, with Siofra O’Brien and Mia Jennings padding the lead with goals in the final period. UCC, on the other hand, hasn’t managed to secure any points, however, UCD opened their account with a goalless draw against the Catholic Institute, while the latter collected a bonus point from the penalty run-ins.
Meanwhile, Old Alexandra and Ards have had encouraging beginnings, marking victories over Railway Union and Pembroke Wanderers respectively. Zara Malseed from Ards added her fourth goal in three games, contributing to their 2-0 victory. Pegasus, tied their third consecutive game, 3-3 against Ulster Elks, with the Elks securing the bonus point in the penalty shoot-out.
The results from Saturday’s Hockey League matches were as follows: UCD drew 0-0 against Catholic Institute, who won an extra point from penalty run-ins. Loreto triumphed 3-0 over UCC, thanks to goals from E Kealy, S O’Brien and M Jennings. Old Alexandra overcame Railway Union 2-1, with goals from J McGrane and S Byrne, and Ards beat Pembroke Wanderers 2-0 thanks to goals from R Houston and Z Malseed. Lastly, Ulster Elks and Pegasus tied 3-3; the Elks secured an extra point in the penalty run-ins.
