Loreto and Institute Secure Second Consecutive Victories

Just two matches into the new season of the EY Hockey League and the only teams that have been flawless so far are Catholic Institute and Loreto. Catholic Institute, based in Limerick, clinched a victory against Railway Union following a comeback, while Loreto soundly beat UCD with a 3-0 scoreline.

Lily Lloyd of Railway first shot to the lead during the second quarter at Rosbrien, before Anna Horan equalised via a penalty stroke in the third quarter. The win was secured by Roisin Begley, who made a successful short corner in the final period.

Great credit must go to Erika Gallagher, UCD’s goalkeeper, who held strong against Loreto until Caoimhe Perdue scored the opening goal in the third quarter. This was followed by a pair of goals by Siofra O’Brien, thereby concluding the tally.

Pembroke Wanderers and Ards both received an additional point after penalty shoot-outs that resulted from their ties with Pegasus and Old Alexandra, respectively. Ulster Elks won 2-0 against UCC, thanks to goals by Audrey Sawers and Gabriella Scott.

Saturday’s Hockey League games concluded as follows: Catholic Institute 2 (with goals by A Horan and R Begley), Railway Union 1 (goal by L Lloyd); Ulster Elks 2 (goals by A Sawers, G Scott) against UCC 0; Loreto 3 (goals by C Perdue, S O’Brien) against UCD 0; Pembroke Wanderers 1 (goal by A Richardson), Pegasus 1 (goal by A Speers).
