Ambulances and the fire brigade arrived at the site, which is located inside London’s Olympic Park, and rescued the victims and cordoned off the danger zone. According to initial statements, the illness was caused by a “high quantity of chlorine gas” in the air.
The first information on the event came from Sky News, which filmed the first aid moments of dozens of people evacuated because of intoxication and breathing difficulties.
It is still unclear the cause of the discomfort that has affected this wing of the Olympic Park.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, was quick to comment on the incident and said on his Twitter account that he was in close contact with the emergency services and was monitoring the incident:
“Avoid the area which has been cordoned off and evacuated. While we air the premises, we ask residents in the immediate vicinity to close their doors and windows.”
