“Lizzo Quits Over Online Appearance Ridicule”

US singer Lizzo has expressed her intention to leave the limelight, citing online backlash concerning her appearance and personality as the reason. Although the singer, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, hasn’t provided the specific trigger for her statement, the timing hints at a related event. Just a day prior, a legal representative, acting on behalf of three ex-dancers who filed a lawsuit against Lizzo in August, expressed disapproval that she was the lead performer at a fundraiser for US President Joe Biden, calling it “disgraceful” in light of the severe accusations against her.

Exhausted by continual criticism both personally and online, the 35-year-old Lizzo shared on Instagram, “Constantly, there are false stories being circulated about me for the sake of popularity and attention… I’m always made fun of for my looks. People who don’t even know me attack my character and disrespect my reputation.”

The singer expressed her desire to spread happiness and make a positive impact on the world through her music, but she feels the world isn’t accepting her. She concluded the post stating, “I didn’t sign up for this. I quit,” followed by a peace sign emoji.

Last year, a lawsuit was filed against Lizzo and her production company by former dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, who allege that the singer created a hostile work environment and engaged in sexual harassment. These accusations were denied by Lizzo at the time as “extremely tough to digest and deeply disappointing,” and even “as implausible as they appear.”

Recently, Lizzo performed at New York’s Radio City Music Hall for a fundraiser for the US president, hosted by Mindy Kaling. Ron Zambrano, the lawyer representing the three dancers, reportedly expressed disapproval to NewsNation, stating, “Lizzo’s selection as the headline performer for an event of this nature is disgraceful amid such severe allegations.”
