Live coverage of the Euro 2025 qualifier match between England and Ireland

The line-up is out! It highlights numerous adjustments for the Irish team following their previous defeat against Sweden. Out go Louise Quinn, Katie McCabe, Megan Connolly, Leanne Kiernan, and Kyra Carusa – for differing reasons, some compelled, some voluntarily.
Stepping in are Niamh Fahey, Anna Patten, a recovered Denise O’Sullivan, Emily Murphy and Amber Barrett.
A worthy mention, Katie McCabe will not be playing owing to a suspension. Taking up the reigns as captain in Katie’s absence is Denise O’Sullivan.
The previous week cast a dark shadow over women’s football and the sport overall in Ireland. This past Sunday, an investigation conducted by The RTÉ/Sunday Independent into historical sexual abuse depicted the FAI in an unfavourable manner. What was supposed to be a heartening news of finding a manager for the men’s team was seen by many as a manipulative diversion to shift focus from the shocking accusations.
If that was the case, the sole outcome was to distract from this game, and the women’s pre-match press conference did not generate the same interest due to Heimir Hallgrímsson’s introduction at Aviva Stadium.
This peculiar week culminates with a match, something that may seem insignificant against the backdrop of the previous week’s events. Yet, it feels refreshing to actually talk about a game of football, although it should not overshadow the revelations of the past. Gavin Cummiskey puts this and more into perspective in his pre-match breakdown.
Good evening, everyone, and welcome to our live coverage of summertime football. After a hiatus of just over a month, Ireland are ready to play again although their Euro 2025 campaign has not been fruitful so far.
Tonight’s challenging match against England doesn’t promise to be easy, being on the opponent’s home ground at Carrow Road.
