“Lexi Thompson Retiring from Golf Year-End”

The retirement of American golf player Lexi Thompson at the close of this year has been disclosed. Thompson clinched victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2014, asserting her only significant title, and achieved victory 11 times on the LPGA Tour.

Thompson has distinguished herself by an assertive and powerful approach to the game and by breaking multiple age-related records. She created history by qualifying for the US Women’s Open in 2007 at the tender age of 12, becoming the youngest player to do so. In 2010, at the age of 15, she embarked on her professional journey and a year later became the youngest victor of an LPGA tournament by clinching the Navistar LPGA Classic in September 2011. Following this, when she emerged victorious in the Kraft Nabisco Championship at the age of 19, she became the second youngest LPGA golfer to claim a major title.

Since then, she was unable to add onto her record of major wins, despite four attempts where she finished as runners up and four more where she claimed the third spot. Thompson was a part of the American Solheim Cup team six times and enjoyed victories in 2015 and 2017. A media session is expected to be arranged at Lancaster to discuss her retirement decision around the evening at 7.30pm ahead of her concluding US Women’s Open.
