Leicester Tops Championship, Ipswich, Leeds Lose

Leicester has returned to the summit of the Sky Bet Championship as Mavididi’s 87th-minute goal ensured a crucial 2-1 victory against Birmingham, despite a valiant equaliser from Jay Stansfield just before the interval. Earlier, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall broke the ice for Leicester 28 minutes into the match.

Simultaneously, automatic promotion contenders Ipswich faced a massive setback when they lost 1-0 to rival club Norwich, causing them to descend from their top spot.

Leeds fell to third place, their first dip in 16 league games, after a 2-1 loss to Coventry, who are still in contention for a playoff position due to the results. Sky Blues’ Ellis Simms netted the opening goal in the ninth minute, while a 49th-minute score by Haji Wright ensured Leeds’ late strike from Joel Piroe was of no consequence.

Both Southampton and West Brom couldn’t capitalise as each ended their journey with one point only. The Saints were held to a goalless draw by Blackburn, whereas West Brom forfeited a 2-0 advantage at Stoke. Despite early goals from Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace, Stoke bounced back with goals from Million Manhoef and Andre Vidigal, who scored from the rebound of a saved 78th-minute penalty.

Middlesbrough’s playoffs hopes were kept alive with Emmanuel Latte Lath scoring twice in their 2-0 triumph over Swansea, keeping their undefeated streak intact with seven games. Simultaneously, Hull collected three points from a 3-1 victory over Cardiff, leaving both teams levelled at 61 points, six behind the top six.

Fabio Carvalho’s twin goals in the first half set their team on the front foot. Even though Karlan Grant netted a goal 12 minutes into the second half, Jaden Philogene quickly re-established the Tigers’ lead merely two minutes later.

In contrast, Preston lagged an additional point behind as they only achieved a goalless draw with Watford. Watford holds a streak of three draws in their previous matches. Similarly, the mid-table match between Sunderland and Bristol City didn’t yield any goals either.

At the lower end of the league, Huddersfield elevated their likelihood of securing their league position. Super sub Rhys Healey’s goal led their team to a critical 1-0 win against Millwall and lifted them out of the relegation zone during the added time of the fourth minute.

Even though Sheffield Wednesday continues to linger in the relegation zone, they are only one point below the Terriers, courtesy of their 2-0 victory over QPR. Super sub Djeidi Gassama’s goal in the 59th minute set the tone and Anthony Musaba, another substitute, solidified their win with a late goal in the added time.
