Lecce dismisses coach D’Aversa following a headbutting episode at match conclusion

The Serie A football club Lecce announced the termination of manager Roberto D’Aversa’s contract after he used his head to strike Thomas Henry, a player from Hellas Verona, following a home game defeat. The incident, which Lecce had publicly denounced, happened on Sunday when the team lost 1-0 to Hellas Verona. It was also stated that both D’Aversa and Henry received red cards post-match. D’Aversa, who had been with Lecce since June 2023, expressed regret over the occurrence, attributing it to continuous provocation of his players towards the end of the match. The club’s performance this season has been less than stellar, with only five wins out of 28 league matches, positioning them in the 15th place with 25 points, one point above the drop zone. Verona, on the other hand, used their victory to climb up to the 13th place, with 26 points.
