Kindred souls united under the banner

Dear Reader,

I was taken aback when I saw Irish right-wing activists marching in unity with their northern allies, carrying the Irish Tricolour and Union flags simultaneously (News, August 5th). This gave me pause to consider that a collective Ireland may be a real possibility, although it may not be an environment many would find welcoming. Best regards,

Dear Reader,

Over the weekend, a curious sight was observed at Belfast City Hall. Irish tricolours were seen alongside Union flags at an anti-immigrant, Islamophobic demonstration. It’s been speculated that those flags were brought by so-called “patriots” from the Republic. Hopefully, they left a few behind for their comrades who may want to showcase them in the bonfires next 11th of July. Yours sincerely,

DANNY BOYD,
Belfast.
