Dear Sir,
I must express my belief that I’m surely not the only one who thinks if the Football Association of Ireland and the Irish Football Association don’t take bold action and form a unified team, we should consider giving up international football on our island entirely.
Admittedly, there exist historical and cultural barriers. However, we’ve demonstrated our ability to overcome these hurdles in the realm of other sports such as rugby, cricket, hockey and obviously, the Olympic disciplines like athletics, swimming, and boxing. Applying the same principle of harmony and compromise to football could potentially provide future Irish football squads with a legitimate chance of succeeding.
Yours faithfully,
Jamie O’Keeffe,
Tramore,
County Waterford.
