On Monday, Keegan Bradley received the appointment as captain of the US Ryder Cup for 2025. This decision by the PGA of America followed the refusal by top choice Tiger Woods to accept the position. They made this announcement official on Tuesday in New York, after numerous media outlets, including The Telegraph, highlighted Woods’ reticence to commit to the job.
According to The Telegraph, Woods desired a lesser role as captain, but he couldn’t negotiate a suitable arrangement with the PGA of America. Bradley, aged 38, who had previously competed in the Ryder Cup in both 2012 and 2014, will succeed Zach Johnson. Johnson served as the captain of the US team in their defeat to Europe in Rome the previous autumn.
The 2025 edition of this biennial contest will be hosted at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, from September 26th until the 28th. Bradley expressed his gratitude for this opportunity in a press release, describing his compelling passion for what he referred to as ‘golf’s greatest team event’.
His career boasts six PGA Tour triumphs, including the 2011 PGA Championship that led to him being crowned the Rookie of the Year. Bradley’s other significant wins include the 2018 BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup playoffs, and the 2023 Travelers Championship.
John Lindert, the PGA of America president, issued a statement expressing confidence in Bradley’s leadership, praising his past Ryder Cup participation, strong connections, and unyielding enthusiasm for the event. He expects the US team to showcase the same confidence and determination that Bradley’s career has exemplified when they compete at Bethpage in 2025.
The European team will see the return of Luke Donald as captain, who had successfully led the team to a win in Rome in 2023.
