Chilly and gusty spells are anticipated this week as we welcome July with unseasonably cool weather. There will be scattered showers paired with moderate to intense winds, generally impacting Ireland throughout the week, interspersed with brief periods of dry weather towards the weekend, according to Met Éireann. The weather is heavily influenced by fluctuating jet streams coursing from west to east, ushering in rain and reduced temperatures.
In the initial week of July, we can expect cooler temperatures dipping beneath the average, accompanied by damp and overcast conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday. We predict that temperatures will fluctuate from 10-12 degrees on Tuesday and 14-20 degrees on Wednesday, driven by moderate to strong winds from the west. Eastern and southern regions are expected to be slightly warmer. Foggy conditions are likely to blanket coastal and elevated areas during midweek.
Met Éireann’s meteorologist, Brandon Creagh, described the weather forecast as uncharacteristically breezy for this time of year. He added that it’s still too premature to predict the weather for the latter part of the month, as it hinges on the direction of the jet streams. While stormy conditions are not projected, it will be windy.
This week, these shifting jet streams will largely affect the northwest areas of Ireland, with notably windy conditions on Thursday. Additionally, temperatures are projected to vary from 13-17 degrees, accompanied by strong winds along the western and northern coastlines.
Creagh stated, “The weather is cooler and more ventilated than usual, and this trend is expected to persist throughout the week. There will be a brief reprieve with dry weather on Saturday, but cloud cover will return on Sunday.”
