Jorge Lorenzo up for Laureus World Sportsman Year Award

The Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Awards are coming up again and this year’s list long list of contenders has the the name of 2010 MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo on it.
Lorenzo finds himself against the usual roster of high profile sporting giants, which include tennis star Rafael Nadal, cricket’s Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan, F1’s Sebastian Vettel, footballers Diego Forlan, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.

Basketball great Kobe Bryant, boxer Manny Pacquiao, golfer Graeme McDowell, trialthon’s Javier Gomez and more.
The names of the six Nominees for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award, voted by the Laureus Media Selection Panel, will be announced in early January and from this short list the winner’s name will be chosed by the 46 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, and announced during the televised Awards Ceremony in Abu Dhabi on Monday, February 7.
Other categories include the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year, Laureus World Team of the Year, Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year and Laureus World Comeback of the YearProceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit and underpin the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation which supports almost 80 community sports projects around the world which have helped to improve the lives of more than one million young people.
