In a thrilling turn of events, Brighton managed a last-minute 2-1 triumph over Manchester United in the Premier League. The team’s first Premier League home match under manager Fabian Hurzeler ended with Brazilian forward Joao Pedro delivering a decisive header in the extra five minutes, deepening United’s disappointment at the buzzing Amex Stadium.
The visitors had previously seemed poised to reverse their luck when Amad Diallo equalised, offsetting an initial goal from ex-United star, Danny Welbeck. However, Brighton’s victory was sealed when Joshua Zirkzee inadvertently led to his teammate Alejandro Garnacho’s effort being prevented, resulting in Brighton’s late triumph.
Joao Pedro, fresh from his successful debut match against Fulham where he earned a 1-0 win for his team, had his second goal. Despite his teammate’s aim for the goal, eagle-eyed VAR intervention spotted Zirkzee tapping in while offside, disallowing the goal initially credited to his teammate. Erik ten Hag wasn’t pleased with the decision. But for Brighton’s German manager Hurzeler, the win was reaffirming, as it allowed him to maintain an unbroken victory run since he succeeded Roberto De Zerbi.
