The readiness of James Ryan for Leinster’s Champions Cup tie against Leicester is presently uncertain. This news comes following the province’s announcement that the secondrow underwent an operation on his wounded arm. Unexpectedly sidelined from the concluding two Six Nations games due to an injury sustained during practice, Ryan’s mishap was described by Andy Farrell as a ‘bizarre incident’. This weekend, the second row player was seen with his left arm heavily bandaged, and Leinster verified on Monday that he had recently undergone surgical treatment.
As of yet, the province has refrained from providing a specific return date but noted Ryan will be evaluated ‘in the following weeks’. Leinster is due for a URC match away to Zebre this weekend, followed by a showdown with Leicester at the Aviva Stadium on the 6th of April in the Champions Cup last-16 round.
In other news, Hugo Keenan will miss Leinster’s imminent trip to Italy following his last-minute withdrawal from Saturday’s Ireland squad due to a hip ailment, and no return is currently scheduled. Ciarán Frawley might be available this weekend as he adheres to the protocols for returning to play after suffering a head injury during Ireland’s game against England in Twickenham. Cormac Foley, the scrum-half, could also be making an appearance as he recovers from a shoulder injury while Martin Moloney, recovering from a bicep injury, MAY also return soon as per the province’s injury report.
Unfortunately, due to recent injuries, Tommy O’Brien (hamstring), Charlie Ngatai (calf), Jimmy O’Brien (neck), and Alex Soroka (foot) are all expected to remain out of action.
