Italy’s best beaches: the Marina at Viareggio in Tuscany

Tuscany is not just famous for its historic cities of art like Florence and Siena, it also has the most beautiful coastline, if you’re looking for a beach holiday in Italy.
Viareggio is located in the province of Lucca, in the heart of Tuscany’s “marittima” region.
This year its beach receives the “blue flag” award for being one of the cleanest beaches in Italy.

The blue flag for beautiful beaches in Italy is awarded by FEE, the Foundation for Environmental Education, in collaboration with other government agencies and port authorities.
The criteria for receiving a blue flag are the marine water quality (purity and reflection), total sewerage treatment works, recycling and waste division programs, and the development of pedestrian areas, cycle paths and green areas.
Look out for Blue Flag beaches when you’re on your Italian summer vacation.
