At least nine people have died in a serious accident in Italy, where a cable car cabin collapsed.
Tragedy in Piedmont, where the Stresa-Alpino Mottarone cable car line collapsed on the morning of Sunday 23 May. According to the newspaper ‘La Stampa’, the cable car had recently been put back into service. According to reports, the death toll has risen to at least 14.
At least two people were injured and two children were transported in a red code. Mountain rescue personnel and the fire brigade were called to the scene and set about extracting the bodies of the passengers. According to reports, all the injured were taken away, while a young boy was rescued by the 118 helicopter.
In the meantime, the National Alpine and Speleological Corps tweeted that ‘two helicopters have also arrived on the scene to support rescue operations‘.
