Italians and Asti Spumante: making a toast with the world’s biggest glass

Things like that usually happen in Italy! Just a few days ago while people were merrily celebrating The White Night dedicated to wine in Spoleto, a cup presented at the event broke all the records as the biggest spumante (spumante is the Italian champagne) cup in the whole world.
The glass was 203 cm tall and with a diameter of 46 cm (80 x 18 inches)! It took 11 magnum bottles (16,5 litres) to fill this huge cup; filled with spumante Asti DOGG of course.

The record was officially homologated by a World Guinness Record judge, Carlos Martines came for the occasion from London.
The Asti spumante is produced in Piedmont; actually in a smaller area which includes only 52 municipalities; 9 in the province of Alessandria, 27 in the province of Asti; 16 in the province of Cuneo.
Ten hectares divided into four areas: Santo Stefano Belbo, Canelli, Nizza Monferrato, Acqui terme.
Here’s the video of the official homologation by the judge.
