You might know that Italians are being taxed left and right to save the country from default and the government is cutting back on budget spending (but very little from their own paychecks) and this has led to certain ministries running out of funds to operate properly.
The latest ’scandal’ is from the Ministry of Transportation that in last two months no longer has the funds to mail license renewal stickers and change of residency stickers, and advise indisciplined riders and drivers on their demerit penalty points.
To renew a drivers license in Italy costs between 40 to 80 euros – depending on where you renew it – but if you consider that this includes €9 that goes to the DMV and a hefty € 14,62 tax stamp you kind of wonder where all this money is going and what’s worse that without that renewal sticker you cannot drive outside of Italy and if by chance you need to drive in another country, the only solution that Ministry gives you in this moment to have an updated duplicate made which will cost you time and even more money.
