Italian golf courses: Clooney plays at the Menaggio course, Lake Como

After hearing that George Clooney plays golf at Menaggio when he’s at Lake Como, I thought I’d check out the website of what is bound to be a posh golf club.
In fact, golf clubs in Italy are most probably all very posh as it’s a sport for the rich and famous VIPs in Italy.

Which is very unfortunate as I am golfer, and wouldn’t mind a game over here but am unlikely to afford any club fees and therefore my chances of meeting George are dashed, yet again.
Clooney apparently likes to eat and play at the golf club, but often checks whether there are any events, as he prefers a quieter, more relaxed environment.
The golf club itself celebrated 100 years last year, and describes itself as a “true corner of England on the shores of Lake Como”.
I’m not really sure how extensive the course is, as the mountains around the lake generally drop straight into the water and there’s not a lot of flat space to be construction golf courses on.

The course is a par 70, with 19 holes, and the club house is full of green carpet and lounge chairs – it’s quite an English style but with a bit of Italian flair combined.
Green fees range from 60 euros during the week, to 75 euros on weekends.
