“Israeli Strike Kills 17 Palestinians”

The Nuseirat refugee camp in the heart of the Gaza Strip was rocked by twin Israeli strikes, claiming the lives of 17 Palestinian individuals, as reported. Al Jazeera correspondent, Hani Mahmoud, states that the victims perished in two unique assaults on domiciles within Nuseirat housing families who recently vacated Rafah.

Mahmoud details the strikes: “Ten casualties, encompassing women and minors, resulted from the initial strike, with a family of five among the victims. The following strike an hour later aimed at a different family home, causing fatalities not just among the parents and children, but also the grandparents.” It’s noteworthy that the Israeli government under the command of Binyamin Netanyahu has barred Al Jazeera from operating within Israel.

Interestingly, the ultra-Orthodox, also known as Haredim, could represent the future of Israel, considering their population is doubling every quarter of a century.

In connected news, additional individuals were reportedly killed in the Gaza Strip following the night of the Nuseirat refugee camp strikes as per local media, characterising the episode as “heavy bombardment”.

In the political circles of Israel, a representative of Netanyahu’s Likud party went as far as to equate domestic protestors to a “Hamas branch”. MK Nissim Vaturi purportedly stated during a radio interview that some of the existing Hamas are “heinous terrorists who slay children” and that certain others are protest factions.

Monday saw a surge of anti-government protestors flocking to Jerusalem demanding fresh elections in pursuit of a new prime minister. Worsening discontentment about the handling of the Gaza war is feeding anti-government sentiment leading to daily demonstrations during the following week. The protest outside the prime minister’s Jerusalem residence ended with injuries and numerous arrests.

In a development across the Atlantic, two influential Democrats in the US Congress have expressed their consent for a substantial arms deal to Israel. This deal encompasses 50 F-15 fighter jets worth an excess of $18bn (€16bn), according to a report by the Washington Post. The agreement has obtained the approval of Representative Gregory Meeks and Senator Ben Cardin following significant persuasion from the Biden administration. These lawmakers had been obstructing the sale for quite a few months, as per the Post’s report.
