The military of Israel reported an aerial assault on the port city of Eilat, on the Red Sea, on Monday. However, the military confirmed there were no casualties. An armoured group in Iraq linked with Iran claimed to be behind the attack.
According to the military’s statement, a flying object from Israel’s east launched and struck a building in Eilat. The statement did not provide further information about the object or its origin. Despite the city’s alarm system being activated, there was no counteraction by air defence.
The armed group, named Islamic Resistance in Iraq, announced that they had attacked a “crucial target” in Israel through the use of “appropriate weapons”. However, they did not disclose any additional information.
Eilat has been the target of constant missile and drone attacks from the Houthi movement, which is affiliated with Iran, in Yemen throughout Israel’s nearly six-month-long conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Israel stated in November that a group in Syria had sent a drone that struck the port city, according to Reuters.
