Is There a Sense of Urgency in the Housing Dilemma?

Dear reader,

Please be informed that the Cabinet is set to consider recommendations for a city centre overhaul from the Dublin taskforce (News, 15th October). An integral part of the ten proposals is the establishment of an interdepartmental delivery group, whose role is to ensure the actualisation of the plan.

Despite this progressive approach, it is disappointing to note that the Housing Minister of the same government is uninterested in creating a similar delivery agency. This was a recommendation made by the Housing Commission earlier this year in response to a widespread housing crisis.

Perhaps it’s time for the Taoiseach to intervene and ensure housing issues are prioritised, no less than the problems faced by the public in Dublin’s city centre.

Yours faithfully,
John O’Mahony, FRIAI
