Iron Maiden Mourn Paul Di’Anno

The sudden demise of Paul Di’Anno, a former member of the notorious heavy metal group, Iron Maiden, has left the members profoundly grief-stricken. Di’Anno, who contributed to the British band’s success during his stint from 1978 to 1981, passed away at 66.

Well-known for belting out anthems like Running Free, Sanctuary, and Remember Tomorrow, Di’Anno played a significant role in Iron Maiden’s inception, featuring on their debut album in 1980 and its successor, Killers. He died in his Salisbury home, as affirmed by Conquest Records, his record label, who confirmed his death on behalf of his bereaved family.

Steve Harris, the bass player of Iron Maiden, mourned Di’Anno’s untimely demise on their social media platforms, expressing his sorrow at his sudden departure. Harris revealed that their rapport had remained strong up until recently, with text exchanges about West Ham’s fluctuating fortunes.

Harris saluted Di’Anno’s determination to continue performing live until recently and extended his condolences, stating he would be remembered by all. His death has left them all deeply shocked.

The band collectively paid tribute to Di’Anno, labelling him a ‘trailblazing’ frontman. The band members highlighted the weight of Di’Anno’s contribution to Iron Maiden’s increasing popularity over the last five decades. His memorable performances, both on stage and their first two albums, will be nostalgically remembered by the band and their fans globally. They expressed their gratitude for the precious moments spent with him a few years ago.

Rod, Andy, and the complete crew of Iron Maiden would like to express their heartfelt condolences to the family and closest friends of Paul. Farewell, Paul, and may you find peace.

Paul Di’Anno, known for his forceful voice that brought a vibrant punk-like quality to the band’s sound, had to relinquish most of his inaugural show with Iron Maiden due to an arrest for knife possession. His turbulent manner and drug use led to his expulsion from the band in 1981, his position filled by Bruce Dickinson who presently leads the vocals. However, Di’Anno did join the group for guest performances subsequently.

Born in East London’s Chingford, Di’Anno was married five times and fathered six children. Post his Iron Maiden journey, he pursued a solo career by recording several albums and also shared the stage with several other bands, including Battlezone and Killers.
