News has emerged from Italian media reports about a 39-year-old Irish citizen who has vanished during a hiking expedition on Sardinia’s island, accompanied by his family members. He disappeared on Friday afternoon while embarking on the third stage of the Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara journey, precisely between Masua and Cala Domestica, as RAI, the Italian national broadcaster reported.
The man was last seen hiking with his siblings before they separated and lost all signs of him. The subsequent searches, carried on relentlessly through Friday night and into Saturday, have yielded no results.

A sophisticated search operation is underway, utilizing an Alpine Rescue team and drivers mobilised for the mission. Aviation resources, such as a search and rescue helicopter and drones with thermal imaging, are being employed, along with two canine units, as reported by RAI.
The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the incident and is extending consular assistance. As per L’unione Sarda, the emergency services are thoroughly searching the coastal areas. They have begun retracing the route initiated from the last known whereabouts transmitted by the man himself on Friday.
