Irish Housing Crisis: Supply Won’t Aid Affordability

Our focus this week is centred around housing supply and mortgages. The discussion will be led by our host accompanied by a panel of experts, including Joe Brennan who is a finance correspondent, Home & Design Editor Fiona Reddan, and Eoin Burke-Kennedy who corresponds on economics.

Fiona Reddan will be presenting an analysis on the average house buyer in Ireland, considering demographic factors like age, financial standing, and their preferred buying locations. She also deliberates on the significant role played by the ‘Bank of Mum and Dad’.

Eoin Burke-Kennedy will endeavour to clarify why opinions on the quantity of houses required to satisfy the yearly demand vary so widely. Should we aim for a target of 50,000 homes, or do we need to stretch as high as 85,000, and what effects will hitting these targets have on housing affordability?

Additionally, Joe Brennan will discuss digital bank Revolut’s strategy to introduce mortgage offerings in the Irish market come the following year. A development that will undoubtedly attract the attention of AIB and the Bank of Ireland.

The production is managed by John Casey facilitating sound by JJ Vernon.
