“Irish Company’s Near-Insolvency Recovery Journey”

The Irish hospitality and retail sectors took a significant hit from the Coronavirus pandemic that started in March 2020. Moriarty’s, a family-owned craft shop and restaurant situated in the Gap of Dunloe in Kerry, which was majorly reliant on American tourists, was particularly affected.

Nonetheless, this company tackled this existential crisis head-on by becoming an early adopter of Scarp. Scarp is a novel rescue scheme for small companies, launched by the Government towards 2021’s end.

Having eradicated substantial debts, Moriarty’s is prospering again and seeking to broaden its operations beyond the Gap of Dunloe territory.

At the helm of the business, alongside other family members, is Denis Pio Moriarty, whose parents founded the company. He recapped the journey of Moriarty’s on Ciarán Hancock’s show, discussing its initial days since its commencement in 1964, its expansion until the pandemic hit in early 2020.

The segment was produced by John Casey.
