“Ireland’s Heavy Defeat to Scotland in Women’s T20”

In the semi-final qualifier of the Women’s T20 World Cup held in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, Ireland failed to progress due to a compelling performance by Scotland’s captain Kathryn Bryce, resulting in an eight-wicket triumph for Scotland. Bryce took four wickets, conceding only eight runs in her four overs, thereby restricting Ireland to a score of 110 for nine after they opted to bat first. The Irish team’s predicament could have worsened, with their score at a dismal 25 for five initially, however, all-rounders Leah Paul and Arlene Kelly helped rescue the innings, contributing 45 and 35 runs respectively and pushing the score into three figures. Scotland, needing 111 to secure victory, responded strongly with Megan McColl, the opening bat, achieving her first international T20 half-century by scoring 50. Thereafter, Bryce’s unbeaten 35 runs sealed their triumph with a surplus of 22 deliveries. Scotland’s win guarantees them a spot in this year’s World Cup in Bangladesh. The team subsequently goes against either Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates, the tournament’s host nation, in the qualifier final set for Tuesday.
