Ireland: Rain Warning, Better Next Week

A status yellow alert for potential localised flooding in Co Donegal this Sunday has been issued by Met Éireann. On Sunday, the rain in the northwest will frequently be steady from 2pm to 10pm, according to predictions from the weather forecasting service.

While rain is expected to spread throughout the country on Saturday afternoon, it is believed it will eventually be replaced with clear skies and periods of sunshine by the time darkness descends. The weather in the forthcoming week is anticipated to be relatively mild albeit cloudy

Rebecca Cantwell, a Met Éireann meteorologist, provided some insight into the weather patterns for the Bank Holiday weekend. She suggested that weather will vary, with periods of rain across the country. However, the predicted weather for next week is seen as more stable, under the influence of high pressure, despite foreseen cloudiness.

According to Ms Cantwell, Saturday is likely to be clouded over. There is expected to be a band of rain moving from the west/northwest towards the south east in the course of the afternoon and evening. When the rain passes, scattered showers and sunnier periods will trail in from the west, with the mercury likely to hit between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius.

Compared to previous nights, Saturday night is expected to be chillier, with temperatures plummeting to between 2 and 6 degrees Celsius during clear intervals, with only a few showers.

The weather forecast for Sunday morning predicts cloudier conditions, with a persistent rain risk in the northwest. However, the southeast regions are likely to remain predominantly dry until the evening.

Bank Holiday Monday could see a cloudy daybreak with sporadic rain. However, rainfall could get lighter and more dispersed as the afternoon progresses, turning into a drier evening. There’s a possibility of more favourable weather appearing later in the evening. 13 to 16 degrees Celsius is the forecasted highest temperature in a faint westerly wind.

The forecast indicates that Monday evening will likely be overcast with minimal rainfall, presenting sporadic patches of drizzle, mist, and fog. The lowest temperatures will hover between 8 and 11 degrees, complimented by faint west-to-northwest or variable winds.

Tuesday’s climate prediction suggests a predominantly cloudy day. Despite this, it’s anticipated to be a largely dry day with sporadic light drizzle coupled with potential periods of sunshine developing later on. The high temperatures are projected to range from 12 to 14 degrees, accompanied by mild westerly winds.

In a similar vein, Wednesday is set to be an overcast day. Although, aside from minor intervals of light drizzle or mist, it will essentially remain dry. Temperature highs are anticipated to span from 13 to 17 degrees, with the warmest in the south and southeast, accompanied by mild westerly winds.

Further projections: Present indicators propose a continued stretch of tranquil weather.
